Should I get an eye exam ?

The American Optometric Association recommends that adults between the ages of 18 and 60 have their eyes examined about every two years and annually for those over 61 years. Along with determining the proper prescription of eyeglasses or contact lenses, your optometrist will evaluate the overall health of your eyes, check how well your eyes work together, and determine if other health concerns might exist. The optometrist will check for glaucoma, cataracts, and the presence of other conditions like diabetes and hypertension. Eye disease and disorders often occur without obvious symptoms. Early detection is essential for proper care.

Can some lenses help eliminate reflections ?

Yes! Anti-Reflective Coating is available from Clear Eyes Rx for prescription lenses. While standard lenses reflect 8% of the light that reaches them, lenses treated with Anti-Reflective Coating reflect .04% of the light, making them virtually invisible. Visually, they eliminate reflections on your lenses that cause ghost images and distracting glare. With the reflections on your lenses from headlights virtually eliminated, you can drive at night with greater confidence. Anti-Reflective lenses also help reduce daytime glare from bright lights and computer screens, easing eye fatigue. Not to mention They look great.

What are the safest lenses I can wear for an active lifestyle ?

Polycarbonate lenses are about 10 times more impact-resistant than standard plastic lenses. They are also up to 30% thinner, have a scratch resistant coating and protect against ultraviolet radiation.

I'm having a lot of problems seeing my computer.  Any solutions ?

There are several options to deal with this growing problem:

  • Intermediate single vision lenses (like reading glasses except designed exclusively for intermediate distances).
  • Computer lenses have near and intermediate powers suitable for both viewing a monitor and doing paperwork, but not for distance.
  • Progressive lenses. Unlike a bifocal lens, which has near and distance corrections, progressive lenses correct vision for near, intermediate, and distance. Talk with our Opticians for specific recommendations.

Why can't I read small print ?

Starting at about age 40 and continuing until about age 70, the ability to focus on objects within 16 to 20 inches decreases. The eye's focusing system includes a lens and muscles that, as they change with age, lose the ability to focus close. That's why many people need reading glasses or bifocals after they reach 40.

What are Varilux no-line bifocals ?  Are they easy to get used to ?

These are no-line multifocals designed to give clearer vision and easier focusing at all distances. The vision areas on the lenses are designed to match the natural movements of your eye, for smoother, faster transitions when shifting focus from near to far. Many people find this kind of no-line lens easier to adjust to, because there is minimal "vision jump."

Can anyone wear contact lenses ?

Your optometrist or opthamologist can decide whether contact lenses are a viable option for you. Patients with dry eye syndrome, chronic allergies, or corneal disorders should not wear contact lenses. Some medications may affect your ability to wear contact lenses. Although contacts may not be right for everyone, they can be used to correct a number of vision problems. Consult your eye care professional for full details.
